The Parol Lantern and Christmas celebrations are so important in the Philippines. The Parol represents the star of Bethlehem. This star helped guide the Wise Men to meet the new King of the Jews. The Birth of Jesus Christ is a very merry time of the year. The Mass and Church so important to the Filipino use the Parol to point the way to glory as part of the Celebration. Many celebrate with a nine day period of early morning pray. Some celebrate it as a Novena. Mass is very early during these nine days. Each day a mass is at 4 AM. The Parol is a star that lights the way to Bethlehem or now the Church. The Mass and celebration on Christmas Eve is called “Noche Buena”.
Part of the Celebrations of Christmas for some is the celebration of the Virgin Mary and how the wise men came to see baby Jesus. Some Filipinos think that wishes to Mary are sometimes granted during this period. These ideas are not so important today as many have branched into other churches the Christian Faith. The spirit of hope are rolled up in this diverse culture.
